  5. Sizes: Birth to 3 months Sole measures 3 1/2" long

  7. Materials: 1 ball of bedspread cotton (white only) or Ciats and Clark
  8. Knit-Cro Sheen (white and colors) for bootie. 1 ball Coats and Clark
  9. pearl cotton #5 in contrasting color for trim. Steel crochet hook
  10. #5 or english hook # 2 1/2 (or size that will give you the correct
  11. guage.

  13. Gauge: 9 DC = 1 inch

  17. GENERAL DIRECTIONS
  18.  
  19. SOLE: Starting at center with main color ch 22 to measure 2 1/2".
  20.  
  21. 1st RND (right side): Work 7 dc in 4th ch from hook, dc in next
  22. 17 ch, work 8 dc in last ch, working along opposite edge of
  23. starting chain, work dc in next 17 ch, join with sl st in 3rd ch
  24. of starting ch.

  26. 2cd RND: ch 3, dc in same place as sl st, work 2 dc in each of next
  27. 7 dc (heel), dc om mext 3 dc, h dc in next dc, sc in next 2 dc, h dc
  28. in next dc, dc in next 3 dc, tr in next 6 dc, 2 tr in each of next
  29. 10 dc (toe), tr in next 6 dc, dc in next 3 dc, h dc in next dc, sc in
  30. next 2 dc, h dc in next dc, dc in next 3 dc, join.

  32. Completed sole should measure 3 1/2 inches.

  34. HEEL and INSTEP:
  35. 1st RND: Ch 3, working around heel, dc in back loop of next 22 sts,
  36. with safety pin mark last dc made, dc in back lp of remaining
  37. sts around sole. Join (68 dc, counting starting ch 3 as 1 dc; ridge
  38. formed around sole. Break off.

  41. HEEL:

  43. 1st ROW: With wrong side facing you attach main color to marked dc,
  44. ch 3 (work thru both lps of each st from now on unless otherwise noted),
  45. working around heel, dc in next 27 dc, ch 4 turn.

  48. 2cd ROW: Skip 1st dc, dc in next dc (ch 1, skip next dc, dc in next dc)
  49. 13 times (14 spaces around heel). Break off.

  51. 3rd ROW: With right side facing you, attach thread in first space om
  52. last row, ch 3 sl st in 3rd ch from hook (picot made), sc in same
  53. sp, (make p, sc in next sp) 13 times; p, sc in same sp (15 p). Break off.

  55. To DEC 1 DC: * Yo hook, insert hook in next st and draw up lp, yo, draw
  56. through 2 lps on hook. Repeat from * once more, yo, draw through all
  57. 3 lps on hook.

  59. To DEC 2 DC: * Yo, insert hook in the next st and draw up lp, yo, draw
  60. through 2 lps on hook, repeat from * twice more; yo, draw through
  61. all 4 lops

  63. To DEC 1 SC: Work in the unworked lp of each of next 2 sts, yo, draw through
  64. all 3 lps on hook.

  66. SOLE TRIM: Work in the unworked lp of each st on 2nd rnd of sole as follows:
  67. With instep facing you, attach contrasting thread to a st and work sc in
  68. each st around, join. Break off.

  70. TIES: With contrasting thread, ch 120. Break off; tie a knot at each end
  71. of chain. Weave chain through spaces around heel.

  75. MINl-SANDALS

  77. You will need scraps of embroidery floss to embroider straps.

  79. SOLE: See General Directions. When sole has been completed. break off.

  81. HEEL - 1st ROW: With right side facing you. attach thread in back lp of
  82. next-to-last sc worked on last rnd; ch 3, working around heel,
  83. dc in back lp of next 27 sts: ch 3. turn.

  85. HEEL - 2cd ROW: Skip first dc. dc in each dc of last row and in turning
  86. ch; ch 4. turn. See General Directions for heel and work 2nd and 3rd rows.

  88. STRAPS for INSTEP - 1st ROW: With right side facing you and counting from
  89. heel, skip 2 sts of sole. attach thread in back lp of next st. ch 2.
  90. h dc in back lp of each of next 7 sts; ch 2. turn.

  92. STRAPS for INSTEP - 2nd ROW: Skip first h dc. h dc in next 7 sts; ch 2, turn.

  94. Repeat last row 10 times more. Break off, leaving 1" end for sewing. Make
  95. another strap on other side of sole in same manner. Cross straps over instep
  96. and sew ends to edge of sole.

  98. SOLE TRIM: See General Directions and work with same color.

  100. TIES: See General Directions and work with same color.
  101.  
  102. EMBROIDERY: Following photograph, embroider a flower and leaves with
  103. lazy daisies and French knots on strap.
